A new instructor at Pilates on 10th

Pilates on 10th announced Tom Wiseley as a new instructor on October 21, via Instagram.

According to the studio, Wiseley brings a Romana Kryzanowska lineage certification to its Capitol Hill roster, at 2351 10th Ave E, where P10 has operated since 2003.

Romana Kryzanowska was Joseph Pilates' protégée. Instructors trained in her line had to be observed teaching by Romana herself before receiving certification. Pilates Seattle International, which has run a Romana-certified program in Seattle since 1993, put it plainly: "Instructors didn't receive their certifications until they had been observed teaching by Romana herself." Christl Marcontell, certified by Romana in 1999 and now running Kinesia Pilates in Seattle, remembered the standard the same way: "When she certified me, Romana asked me to keep it pure."

Two classical tracks, one studio

P10's own teacher training runs through Power Pilates, a downstream classical program.

Ashlyn, a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant completing her certification at the studio, describes it as structured and in demand: "classically trained instructors are in-demand. It's a good certification to have from an opportunity standpoint." The Romana's Pilates track, which the studio says Wiseley holds, is the older direct line, distinct from Power Pilates even though both fall under the classical umbrella.

As Vitality Pilates has grown to three locations across Phinney Ridge, Ravenna, and Mount Baker, P10 has held to small-group work, capping semi-private sessions at four clients.

Twenty-three years in northern Capitol Hill

Founder Amie Baca opened the studio in 2003 out of a 550-square-foot storefront slightly north of the current space, with two business partners she eventually bought out. The 2008 move to 2351 10th Ave E, a former European grocery, happened on Seafair Sunday: Baca and a crew of instructors and clients pushed the Cadillac on dollies up the block. "I built the studio to last," Baca said in a 2023 retrospective. "I gave it everything I had and it was MY everything!"

Kim Grady bought the studio in 2017 after being a client there and has kept the same community model. Gail Halpern has attended weekly private sessions since the studio opened. In a 2025 profile, she said of Grady: "Kim got into it, like 200%. She's never not excited about Pilates."

How P10 works

The studio runs private, duet, and semi-private sessions, plus group classes.

New clients start with a 50-minute introductory session before being placed in a class. Ashlyn, who also works the front desk while finishing her certification, describes what shapes the culture: "It's a pretty tight established client community, and we're working in a shared space so we really get to know each other!" P10 is at 2351 10th Ave E in northern Capitol Hill and has a small parking lot.
