Seattle Fitness Magazine

What this is

Seattle Fitness Magazine is an independent editorial title based in Seattle, covering the city's gyms and studios one room at a time. Forty-four pieces so far.

The beats

Gym and studio profiles, written neighborhood by neighborhood. Run clubs and trail groups, plus the waterfront routes people actually log miles on. Recovery, which in this city means cold plunge and sauna. Then the rooms that resist a category: boxing gyms, hot yoga, CrossFit boxes, and the coffee shops where the run ends. Los Angeles turns up as a comparison too.

How a piece gets made

No venue runs here without a live check first. Open status, address, every link, every photo, all confirmed against the venue's own current site before it publishes. A listing that says a gym is open is a different thing from a gym being open, and the gap between them is most of the job. Persistence Athletics in Belltown has its own profile, and so do Bouldering Project in Fremont, Castle Climbing Club in West Seattle, and Row House South Lake Union, none of them ranked against the others. Anything that will not confirm gets cut before publication.

Where it runs

Twelve neighborhoods so far: South Lake Union, Belltown and Lower Queen Anne; Fremont, Wallingford and Green Lake; West Seattle, Eastlake, Madrona, Capitol Hill, Magnolia and Georgetown. Castle Climbing Club, West Seattle: an 11,000 square foot bouldering gym, a wood-fired sauna, a separate weightlifting and cardio area, and pole-fitness and yoga studios. Persistence Athletics, which works 7,000 square feet in Belltown, fills it with Olympic platforms, sleds and turf. Bouldering Project keeps a second building of walls nearby.

The neighborhood guides are the place to begin. The store carries nineteen products: the Essential Series of per-muscle training guides, the Workout Series of paired-muscle volumes, and apparel. Corrections and tips go to info@timbr.fit, and they get read.
