All four distances sold out for October 25

Every distance is full.

The 5K, 8K, 12K, and Kids' Race all showed sold out on RunSignUp as of October 24, 2026, the night before the gun goes off at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th St.

Orca Running has staged the pirate-costume race on the Sammamish River Trail since at least 2016, with a virtual edition in 2020. What began as a 5K and 8K grew to include the 12K. October 25 is one week before Halloween.

Pirates on a paved trail

All three adult distances run out-and-back from Redmond City Hall: the 8K and 12K head north, the 5K heads south.

The course is flat and paved. Costumes are the point. A RaceRaves reviewer who ran the 5K in October 2024 called it "one of my favorites of the year," and singled out the post-race scene: "Costumes, the party area and the trunk or treat for the kid in all of us, makes this a run for everyone."

Monte, the blogger behind Monte's Running Commentary, estimated around 570 participants across all distances in 2023 and described the costumes as ranging from OK "to uncomfortable and confining to just plain weird, but all was good and the vibe was cheery."

Who runs Orca Running

Porter and Ashley co-own Orca Running, which has staged the race since at least 2016.

Ashley also directs it; Aaron has shaped the courses since that first season. Orca calls itself the first carbon neutral race production company in Washington state and donates one percent of pre-tax gross revenue through its 1% for the Planet membership. The 2026 race supports the Eastside Firefighters Benevolent Fund, which serves communities across the Eastside including Sammamish, Issaquah, and Woodinville.

Sunday morning details

Packet pickup opens at 8:30am at the start.

The Kids' Race goes at 9:45am, the 5K at 10:00am, the 8K and 12K at 10:10am, and Trunk or Treat and post-race activities at 10:15am, with PostDoc Brewing as a race partner. The course closes at 12:30pm.

All Orca races are cupless: bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack, or grab a small reusable folding cup at the start. Aid stations depend on the distance: the 12K has two, each passed twice, stocked with GU gels; the 8K has one, passed twice; the 5K has none. Every adult finisher gets a medal and race shirt; Kids' Race finishers get a medal. Dogs are welcome at the start and finish but may not run the course.

For next year

Day-of registration requires the race not be sold out, and it is.

Runners who missed 2026 can watch for Orca's early-bird window at orcarunning.com, where the 5K is priced at $50 in the final tier and the 12K at $60. Orca's community marketing manager Rachel hosts the weekly Tuesday run club, free and open to all paces.
