Ampersand Fitness Green Lake is expanding

The 24/7 gym at 7400 Aurora Ave N has posted a "COMING SOON" banner announcing more space, more equipment, showers and a sauna.

No opening date or construction timeline appears anywhere on the gym's site, but the expansion is live on the Green Lake landing page as of October 19.

Ampersand Fitness, which operated for years as NW Fitness Gym, now runs 24-hour locations in First Hill and Green Lake. The Green Lake location, which opened earlier this year, is the one getting the upgrade.

What is being added

The gym is advertising the expansion in its own words: "More space. More equipment. More ways to train."

Showers and a sauna are specifically called out, both of which the current Green Lake location does not have. On-site massage is also absent at Green Lake today, offered only at First Hill through therapist Eddie Cruz. A membership special tied to the expansion is available by email. No square footage, floor plans or before-and-after comparisons have been posted.

The gym so far

The gym claims over 50 group classes a month across both locations, covering kickboxing with instructor Esiel Clark, yoga led by Erin Feil, a Registered Yoga Teacher and certified personal trainer, and a Fall Challenge running October 15 through November 15. Four squat racks are on the floor. The gym's FAQ invites members to "chalk up and lift heavy, but please respect the space :-)"

Owner John Carrico, a Seattle native, bought the business in 2019 alongside his wife Jess. He also sits on the board of the First Hill Improvement Association. The gym keeps its community ties close: referrals are limited to people who live or work within 2 miles of the facility, and out-of-town referrals are explicitly barred.

A third location is set to open on Bainbridge Island

The Green Lake upgrade is not the chain's only expansion in progress.

Ampersand has a third gym billed to open on Bainbridge Island. Workouts start November 1. The two existing locations have collected what the gym calls 200+ five-star Google reviews, the gym's own count, not independently confirmed.

Carrico has been training clients since 2000. The First Hill Improvement Association credits him as a former South Lake Union Chamber of Commerce board member and recipient of its Volunteer of the Year award.

How to get in

Both locations run 24/7, 365 days a year.

Staffed hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entry is by app barcode or a physical keychain tag. Sign-up is online anytime or at the front desk during staffed hours. To claim the expansion membership special, the gym asks members to email info@ampersandfitnessgym.com.
